Adventure in a rainforest of Borneo (16 days)
1st day: flight to Kuala Lumpur
Meeting at the airport, departure to Kuala Lumpur.
2nd day: flight to Kuala Lumpur – Putrajaya – Kuala Lumpur
Arrival to Kuala Lumpur. Meeting with the guide, transfer to city of Putrajaya – administrative capital of Malaysia. Short walk on the streets of Putrajaya. Drive through the impressive bridges and near to the government buildings. Transfer to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s largest city. Drive through the Merdeka Square. Welcome dinner. Overnight in Kuala Lumpur.
3rd day: Kuala Lumpur
Breakfast. City tour of Kuala Lumpur. We visit Batu caves which are also Hindu place of worship. Walking along the huge caves, which has colourful sculptures of Hindu deities. Visit to the shopping district of Chinatown. In the afternoon we go to see 452 meters high Petronas Twin Towers – between 1998 and 2004 being the tallest building in the world. A visit to the city park next to the towers. Dinner, overnight in Kuala Lumpur.
4th day: Kuala Lumpur – Bandar Seri Begawan
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport in Kuala Lumpur, flight to Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam – the oldest Sultanate in the region. Transfer to the hotel, city tour of Brunei capital: Sultan Omar Ali Suifaddien mosque (from outside only), visit to the city park of Tasek Lama. Dinner, overnight in Bandar Seri Begawan.
5th day: Bandar Seri Begawan – Miri
Breakfast. Exploring exotic Bandar Seri Begawan. Boat trip to the water village (Kampung Ayer) with old wooden houses built on water. Boat will take us to the rainforest where we will try to find endemic Proboscis monkeys. We visit also mangrove forest. Return by boat to the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan. Walk around the city: a visit to the Sultan’s Regalia that accumulate an impressive collection of gifts for the Sultan of Brunei. Transfer to the city of Miri in Malaysia. Overnight in Miri.
6th day: Miri – Gunung Mulu National Park
Early breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Gunung Mulu National Park (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Gunung Mulu is located in the most inaccessible part of Borneo island, this area was discovered by a man very late: in last three decades of 20th century. Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. Excursion to Lang Cave and Deer Cave. Canopy Walk (it is the longest canopy walk in the world). In the evening (depends of the weather conditions during this day) we will try to see exodus of the baths from the cave. Back to the hotel, dinner. Overnight in Gunung Mulu at the hotel build in a style of traditional longhouses.
7th day: Gunung Mulu National Park – Kota Kinabalu
Breakfast. Boat trip to the small village inhabited by the local tribes. You can buy some original local souvenirs here. We continue our boat trip to the Wind Cave and Clean Water Cave. After visit to caves transfer to the airport for the flight to Kota Kinabalu – capital of province of Sabah. Transfer to the hotel. In the evening visit to the local night market with seafood and tropical fruits. Dinner, overnight in Kota Kinabalu.
8th day: Kota Kinabalu – Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine National Park – Kuching
Breakfast. Half-day excursion to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine National Park, which protects five small islands located on the South China Sea: Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sulung. Boat ride through the picturesque archipelago, the possibility of short walks in the jungle on the islands, relaxing on the beach or swim in the turquoise waters of the lagoon. In the evening transfer to the airport, flight to Kuching, capital of the province of Sarawak. Overnight in Kuching.
9th day: Kuching – Semenggoh Wildlife Centre – Kuching
Breakfast. City tour of Kuching. We walk through the Old Town, combining influences of Malay, colonial and Chinese architecture. We walk along the historic buildings of the former colonial administration and the picturesque riverside. A visit to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre – the place helps injured or orphaned orangutans that after a successful recovery may come back to life in the wild. Dinner, overnight in Kuching.
10th day: Kuching – Bako National Park – Kuching
Breakfast. Visit to the Bako National Park, considered one of the most beautiful in Borneo. Boat trip, a short walk in the park. We will try to find a growing Nepenthes – carnivorous plants and different species of monkeys that live here, among them Proboscis species. Back to Kuching. Dinner and overnight in Kuching.
11th day: Kuching – Batang Ai
Breakfast. We take a bus and boat through the areas inhabited by Iban – natives of Borneo tribe to the village of Batang Ai. We take you to the pristine area, only rarely inhabited by local communities. Meeting with Iban people – natives of these lands. Dinner. Overnight in Batang Ai at the hotel build in a style of traditional longhouses.
12th day: Batang Ai
Breakfast. Day free to relax in the heart of Borneo rainforest or exploring everyday life of Iban people. Optionally, the possibility of home visits and guided walks among rainforest with learning about interesting species of plants and herbs and their medical use, passed from generation to generation. Dinner and overnight in Batang Ai at the hotel built in a style of traditional longhouses.
13th day: Batang Ai – Damai
Breakfast at the hotel. Return by boat to Kuching and then drive to the seaside village of Damai, famous for beautiful beaches. Dinner and overnight in Damai.
14th day: Damai (leisure)
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day in Damai. Leisure on the beach, optional water sports, such as snorkeling, kayak or boat trips. Dinner and overnight in Damai.
15th day: Damai – Singapore
Early breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport in Kuching, flight to Singapore. Transfer to hotel, evening tour of Singapore by subway: visit to Little India and Chinatown districts. Possibility of shopping. Visit to the Buddhist and Hindu temples and mosque. Walk through the old English colonial district (monuments of Raffles – founder of modern Singapore and Merlion – the symbol of the city). We visit modern business district of Singapore – one of the most important financial centres in the world. Early dinner. Transfer to the airport, departure to your destination*.
16th day: Flight back
Arrival to your destination.
